Coming off a 6-12 record, the Gunn Baseball team is ready to make some noise. This past summer they had 4 players commit to a college, Trey LaMay to the College of Charleston, Josh Trager to Stonehill College, Will Bartoli to Long Island University, and Cam Willis to Roger Williams University. Also with the return of some other key players, the team is very optimistic about improving their record. “I think we have a lot of potential to be good this year, we have a different demeanor, adding Coach Garrett Coe has been a great addition to help our pitching staff, and the competition inside the program is more competitive than it has been in years past,” shared Trey LaMay.

The Highlanders have a strong pitching staff this year, led by Senior ace Trey LaMay. Offensively, the team has the best all around lineup and most depth they’ve had in a couple of years. They expect to see major improvements all around this year. Much of that credit goes to new pitching coach Garrett Coe, a former player/student at The Gunnery and later at UConn. His experience and insight have already made a big impact on the program, particularly in building a consistent and competitive pitching culture.

Coming off a big 8-3 win over Shepaug, with strong performances from both the pitching staff and the offense, Gunn showcased their true potential. The team looks to carry that momentum into the season and especially for their upcoming Canterbury game on Friday, April 4th. The players showed off great confidence and teamwork, which will hopefully continue throughout the season.

Beyond the physical side of the game, the coaches have been focused on strengthening the team’s mindset. A big part of this comes from honoring Coach Trundy’s three rules: Respect the game, respect your teammates, and get 1% better everyday. On April 12th, the baseball team and Gunn community will gather together to remember Coach Trundy. After the game, there will be a reception where players, coaches, and fans can share their favorite stories and moments about beloved Coach Trundy.
