The JV Baseball season started great this year. The energy shifted from the first game, when the team beat Avon Old Farms 7–6, with a walk-off in-the-park home run by Tommy Misukanis ’26. That exciting start got everyone on the team excited and hopeful. Reality started to settle in. The second game started with a tough away game against the Hopkins School. The team was mercy-ruled in the fifth inning, an embarrassing loss that served as a reminder of the frustrations of baseball.
Following a quick break in the schedule, the team rebounded with a commanding, 16–2 victory at Brunswick School in Greenwich, CT. The win was a pretty big energy boost for the team and served to set the tone for the remainder of the season. Despite the momentum, the squad lost a close game to Trinity-Pawling. They then played a makeup game with Salisbury School that, because of weather, distance, and field availability, needed to be played on a neutral field at Shepaug Valley School. The game began with us scoring first, but was abruptly delayed and then canceled by an unexpected storm.
Thunder and lightning enforced the Connecticut 30/30 weather law, which caused an early conclusion before the fifth inning and meant that the game did not count in the team’s record. A couple of other games were rained out by the spring weather, and most were unable to be rescheduled because of conflicting school schedules. The team finished the season with a 2–3 record, an improvement for the program.
A season highlight was being able to call down freshman varsity pitcher Tommy Hagymasi ’28 for a game. Looking back on it, he commented, “Being on the JV team was a fun experience.”. The environment was also different from varsity; everyone was more relaxed, and we all got along so well. It was like we were just out there having fun playing baseball together.” Andrei Dubchak ’25, a senior, stated, “This team this year was a lot of fun to be a part of.” Varsity hockey in the winter is great, but to be outside and just be able to enjoy playing the game of baseball is what made this season so special.” I feel that this is a team I will always remember.” Overall, this JV Baseball season was a successful experience for all involved.
