As the winter approaches, the Gunn community eagerly welcomes the return of their cherished traditions that bring joy to both the students and faculty. From sledding down Marich Hill to the festive ugly sweater contest, the excitement of secret snowflake exchanges, and the annual holiday concert, Gunn embraces the season with time-honored celebrations that warm our hearts and strengthen our community spirit.
One of the most cherished traditions at our school is the annual sledding day. A beloved winter event brings the community together for a day filled with snow and fun. In place of classes, students and faculty put down their books and put on their snow boots, embracing the great snowy outdoors. This tradition was inspired by Frederick and Abigail Gunn and reflects the importance of meaningful and lasting traditions that will resonate with the students for past and future generations. In a recent announcement given by the head of the school, Mrs. Gum, she stated, “As a school, we believe in fun and rest as essential to living a well and happy life. We hope our students enjoy this day of rest, and time spent together outdoors.”. This event truly embodies our community holiday spirit, showcasing how shared moments can strengthen our sense of community, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Another tradition deeply rooted in the history of the Frederick Gunn school is the annual holiday concert. Celebrated every year following our formal dinner, students, faculty, and guests make their way to TPACC to enjoy an evening of musical celebration. The school hosts a night of musical festivities featuring the Chamber Orchestra, Vocal Ensemble, Jazz Band, and special guest performers. In past years the musical program featured songs from diverse genres and cultures. Reflecting the rich diversity of the Frederick Gunn School community and beyond.
Micheal Schorder, a junior at FGS, stated. “I love the holiday concert. It is one of my all-time favorite events at the Frederick Gunn School. It’s so cool to see how talented people are in the musical arts, which is not something you get to see every day.”
Moments like these, where the community gathers together to enjoy music and support their peers, embody the spirit of the togetherness that makes the Frederick Gunn School truly special. Traditions like these are more than just annual events, they are the heart of the shared experiences that connect us, leaving lasting impressions and strengthening the bonds that define our school
