After numerous hard-fought games, on Monday, September 30th, the Gunn Girls Soccer team celebrated their first victory against Christian Heritage. This was a tremendous milestone for the girls and the entire school community. The game was a hard-fought battle, the girls showcased their skills by applying all their knowledge and tricks from practice, and they ultimately secured the win. Notably, this game saw many first Gunn goals scored by Sarah Low ’28 and Maya Edwards ’26. However, the team recognized each player and how their efforts led to their success.
When competing in this athletic competition, the team was sure to thank their success for their immense communication skills on and off the field. Starting goalie and team captain Sofia Cuozzo ‘25, stated, “Everyone is to thank for today’s win. The communication we have been working on in practice was incorporated into the game, ultimately giving the Gunn girls varsity soccer their first win.” Achieving this success will continue to help motivate the girls for future games to come.
Additionally, the support from the Gunn community played a vital role in the success of the game. The parents, faculty, and student cheers motivated the girls to persevere during times of struggle and to celebrate moments of achievement. Shannon McCormack ‘25, an attendee of the game, expressed, “The girls on the field fought hard and worked well together, and as a Highlander, it felt good to see them get a well-deserved win. The girls with or without the win that day, recognized the immense support that they give each other, and no matter what the outcome the team that they created perfectly encased what I mean to be a Highlander”. With many more games ahead this season, the team is committed to working hard in practice to replicate this success.
