After numerous hard-fought games on Monday, September 30th, the Gunn Girls Soccer team secured their first victory against Christian Heritage. This was a tremendous win for the girls and the campus that surrounded them. The game was a hard-fought battle, but with the girls applying all their knowledge and skills from practice, they ultimately secured the win. Not only does the team recognize the win, but they also recognize the first Gunn goals scored by Sarah Low ’28 and Maya Edwards ’26.
When competing in this athletic competition, the team was sure to thank their success for their immense communication skills on and off the field. Sofia Cuozzo ‘25, the goalie and one of the team captains, stated, “Everyone is to thank for today’s win. The communication we have been working on in practice was incorporated into the game, ultimately giving the Gunn girls varsity soccer their first win.”
However, the team recognizes that they were not the only reason for success; the support the Gunn community gave them that day motivated them to play their best. The parents, faculty, and student cheers motivated the girls to never give up during times of struggle and to continue in times of success. Shannon McCormack‘25, an attendee of the game, expressed, “The girls on the field fought hard and worked well together, and as a Highlander, it felt good to see them get a well-deserved win.” With many games to come in the later season, the girls are practicing hard every day to continue to achieve many games like this.
