With the first full academic school year with the Lizzie underway, the building has proved to be a worthwhile investment for the school. Utilizing the largest philanthropic gift in the school’s history, $25 million, The Lizzie and Johnathan Tisch Center for Innovation and Active Citizenship, or ‘The Lizzie,’ is a state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly STEM facility.
Students and faculty alike appreciate the new addition to campus. Mr. McMann stated, “I believe the Lizzie and the CJD classroom inspires students to put forth their best effort and be more professional in the classroom. It brings out the best student work I’ve seen in over two decades of teaching. It’s an inspiring space.” Undoubtedly, the all-glass, bright design of the building allows students to be more engaged, focused, and attentive in class. Gage Klober ‘25 succinctly explained, “It’s a great building.” These sentiments were quite common amongst the staff and students, with Finn Carr ‘26 saying, “It’s great,” and Karl Hammer ‘25 exclaiming, “It’s goated.” When asked about Lizzie. Doctor Durning also mentioned his appreciation for the energy-efficient air conditioning in the building.
Looking toward the future, the Lizzie will continue to inspire students to learn, grow, and collaborate. With an entire center focused on Citizenship and Just Democracy, a state-of-the-art Ideas Lab, and numerous math and science courses, the Lizzie continues to be an awesome addition to the school.
