The Frederick Gunn Baseball team has played baseball for the last 155 years, since their first game against New Milford. The team has had an iconic history since that day, producing many great college and professional baseball players. The Boys Varsity Baseball team started their season in Florida this year. For the last 25 years, the varsity baseball team has traveled to Port St. Lucie, Florida, to practice and play games to prepare for their season.

Undertaking a grueling week of preparation, the team’s daily routine began at 9 am and extended until 2 pm. Their relentless efforts were focused on gearing up for the first three scrimmages of the season. In addition to their intense training, the team also fostered camaraderie through various team-bonding activities, including a Mets spring training game.

Displaying their prowess, the team engaged in three fiercely contested games against teams from across the country and Canada. The team emerged victorious in all three games, making significant contributions. The offensive side was dominated by powerful hits from Cam Wills ‘25, TJ Addonizio’24, and Miles Perez’25, while the pitching side saw stellar performances from Josh Trager’25, Trey LaMay’25, and Daniel Galasso’24.

Will Bartoli ‘25 revealed that the trip to Florida was “a great chance to get the guys together before we go back up north. The chance to get work in and build connections with the new guys is always great. It was fun competing and getting ready for a big year.” TJ Addonizio, who has committed to the University of Richmond, agreed.“The trip was very fun. We got a lot of work in and made some big strides. The team had a lot of fun together and grew together as a team. We are poised for a big season when we get back north.”

The 2024 Gunn Baseball trip to Florida was a success in many ways, and the Highlanders are ready for a big spring season in 2024.
