Spring sports have finally arrived! One of the up-and-coming FGS athletic teams is the Boys Varsity Tennis team, led by head coach Mr. Leathers and assistant coach Mr. Paradies. With new players and a new attitude this season, Coach Leathers has high expectations for his team.

Last year, the young FGS team had a very youthful squad that obtained a variety of injuries which resulted in the team not reaching its expectations,  and ending in a 4-10 record. Additionally, The team lost two important seniors, Zachary Peng ‘23 and Nic Danforth ‘23, who played key roles in the lineup. However, this year’s team and its seniors are ready to leave their mark, as positive results are already showing on the court. The team recently traveled a long two-hour drive to the Williston Northampton School, and the travel bogged down many, but this long drive did not affect the boys’ play as they all battled hard, resulting in a rewarding score that came out in Gunn’s favor with a 5-2 victory. On the victory bus ride back, the team picked up some Chipotle and returned to campus, ready to fight another day.

FGS Tennis Captain Matthew Neu ‘24 made this comment on the bus ride home after the win stating, “The team this year is special. We are all united by a common purpose shared by the love for the game. The energy on this squad is palpable, and we are so amped up and excited for the season”. The Frederick Gunn School’s Tennis team is one to be reckoned with this year, as its lineup looks promising for the remainder of the spring season.
