As the weather warms and the snow melts, it is easy to feel the excitement for spring around campus. However, one group seems to be most excited about the spring term. The Frederick Gunn Boy’s Baseball team has been itching to get on the diamond, and for good reason. They have retooled since last year and look poised for a primary bounce-back season.

The Boy’s Baseball team is led by a three-year senior and recent University of Richmond Commit, TJ Addonizio. The star third baseman can hit for power and brings valuable defensive skills. However, his best attribute is his vocal leadership on and off the diamond. As they say, a baseball is only as good as their catcher. Man, does this team have a phenomenal catcher Will Bartoli ‘25 has garnered a lot of Division 1 interest, and for good reason. The Highlanders News Network met with TJ Addonizio to get his thoughts on his team’s future, and he couldn’t help but bring up the team’s standout catcher. “He is a valuable left-handed bat who can hit for contact and power. However, he is irreplaceable behind home plate with his elite defensive prowess.”

Over the summer, the team lost a Boston College Commit, Leo Vitarelli, who was the ace last year, but they don’t seem too concerned. The team is looking to Trey LaMay ‘25 and Josh Trager ‘25 to fill that void and lead the team on the mound this year. LaMay and Trager provide a great 1-2 punch and can get outs at will. I caught up with star pitcher Trey LaMay and he seems high on the upcoming season. “The loss of a pitcher as good as Leo never feels good, but I am very confident in Josh and I’s ability to win games. We have two good relief pitchers in Ryan Ryu ‘25 and Talen McBride ‘25 that should be able to log some valuable innings and close out games.”

The Boy’s Baseball team has worked hard in the off-season and is motivated to improve on last year’s season. With great senior leadership and Division 1 prospects on the team, everything points to a fun and successful season.
