Every winter, typically in February, the Frederick Gunn School hosts a semi-formal dance. In past years, the event has occurred in the dining hall or outside in the glade, but this year, the Prefects planned something extra special. Occurring on a community weekend, Saturday, February 10th, the dance was held at the Washington Club Hall, just up the hill from Memorial.
The theme was Winter Wonderland, meaning the Highlanders should have adorned themselves in white, blue, or, sparkly semi-formal attire. The Prefects decorated the club hall with matching decorations, including a photo booth manned by Ms. Hedden. Pictures taken at the photobooth can be found in the school SmugMug galleries under 2023-2024 School Events. Per tradition, many students also took pictures in Bourne before the dance.
The school served pigs in blankets, macaroni and cheese bites, and fruit, as well as a variety of drinks. The prefects also hired a spectacular DJ for the evening. It took place from 8:15 to 10:30 in the evening, followed by an 11:00 final dorm check-in for all students.
“The food was exquisite,” Kaki Hecht, a new senior, commented on her experience at her first official Frederick Gunn dance. “It was fun, I’m pumped for prom.”
