Head Tour Guides are an important student leadership role on our campus, but what is it that they do? What makes them different from other tour guides? There are eight Head Tour Guides every year, seven being seniors and one being a junior. This year, we are proud to have Mia Merrill ’25, Emma Eschweiler ’24, Andrew Rainville ’24, Bella Schifano ’24, Milo Corner ’24, Treyor Addonizio ’24, Andrew Sawyer ’24, and Bunny Borzilleri ’24. Each of their HTG profiles can be found on the school website under “Tour Guides.”
The Highlander News Network talked to some of the Head Tour Guides to get a behind-the-scenes look at what it means to hold this position.
Bunny Borzilleri was eager to speak about the role of HTGs in the fall. “A lot of what we do is connected to orientation, we will kind of take charge of helping acclimate students on campus and helping them find where they need to be,” she commented. “Especially at the beginning of the year is when we get to take charge; helping prospective tour guides learn the tour route, teach them what to say, and also imploring people to make it personal and use their own voice.”
The Highlander interviewed Treyor Addonizio next. “I’m proud of our school and I like sharing my experiences,” he continued to speak at the opening of Lizzie. “My first time in the Lizzie was on a tour, so I had to think on my feet, which was actually pretty cool.”
Head Tour Guides are responsible for a number of things, including helping to organize the tour schedule, discussing tour routes, training new tour guides, and giving tours themselves. The HTGs, as well as all tour guides, work alongside Ms. Hedden, Ms. Childs, and the rest of the admissions office. The application process to become a Head Tour Guide begins in spring term and requires prospective HTGs to have a conversation with two members of the admissions team, as well as completing a form.
“They just want to know why you love to give tours and what makes you want to be a Head Tour Guide,” Borzilleri explained. “Overall, it’s just so they get to know you a bit more and for you to show why you signed up in the first place.”
The time of year to start applying for student leadership positions is almost here, so make sure that you consider over spring break what you want to do next year!
