On February 19, the senior class made their long-awaited trip to Lake Placid. As tradition at Gunn, the freshman class travels to Lake Placid each year to make unforgettable memories. Whether that is skiing or snowboarding down the breathtaking slopes, or heading into town to grab something to eat, the experience is unmatched. Unfortunately, due to COVID, the seniors were unable to have that experience. Each year, they waited eagerly to hear if it was ever possible to have a class trip. After 4 years, 25 seniors loaded up the buses and drove 4 hours to hit the slopes in Lake Placid for two days.
Peter Murphy, a senior who went on the trip said, “It was a lot of fun, but I was hesitant about going at first because I don’t know how to ski. The town was beautiful. The first day we went skating and walked around the town. For dinner, we grabbed burgers and the food was good. On the second day, we got up early and hit the slopes for around 4 hours. Overall, it was a great experience and I’m very happy that the school offered it to us.”
Bella, another senior on the trip, noted that “It was fun to see all the places where the Olympics were. We were able to go shopping in the small town. My favorite part was when Mrs. Leblanc got lost a few times or when I ran into a few trees while I was skiing. The experience was truly unforgettable and I’m super happy I went.”
Overall, the senior class had an amazing time. They were fortunate enough to be able to create the memories that were missed out on freshman year. Lake Placid is by far one of the best traditions that Gunn has to offer, and there is so much opportunity to try something new. Although the senior class had to wait 4 years for theirs, their experience was just as memorable.
