To start the 2024 year, The Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch Center for Innovation and Active Citizenship had its grand opening. After knocking down the old science building in 2021, students and faculty patiently and eagerly awaited the reveal of the campus’s new space. The Lizzie allows for more hands-on learning, bigger classrooms, collaborative spaces, and a new study hall space for juniors and seniors. It is the campus’s newest hotspot.

Mr. Bailey, who has been a teacher for over 15 years at Gunn, said that his favorite part about The Lizzie is the comfort. “My old room was cold and when it rained hard water came through the walls.  I love the space in my new classroom.  I also love the places for people to meet.  I see so many students at the desks and chairs in the hall.  Fantastic.” He also made note that the opening of The Lizzie truly moved all academics to one side of Route 47. In his free time, he goes to visit other science, math, and engineering classes. He says it gives him inspiration and new ideas for his own teaching. “I am super happy with the new building and the physics lab specifically.  It has really exceeded my expectations and it allows for growth in the classroom in the future too.”

On January 4, The Lizzie flooded with students and faculty during the advisor block. Many described the new building as “beautiful,” “welcoming.” and “innovative.” The space is always filled with smiling faces and positive vibes. Caroline Marich mentioned that she loves the natural light in The Lizzie. Along with Caroline, many have made comments on the various study spaces that are available. The comfy blue chairs and bean bags are a favorite amongst students. The Lizzie has been an amazing addition to the campus!
