The Boys Basketball program is a historic program that has yet to have much success in recent years. But current Head Coach Brian “The Brain” Konik has made sure to switch the perception of the team. Ever since his promotion to Head Coach, the team has been making big strides year after year. The Boys’ Basketball program is coming off the best season in over twenty years. The team made it to the championship game, eventually losing to the Rivers School. That said, the team is poised to have another good season trying to make it back to the playoffs.

The team has started the season off to a rocky 3-5 record but this has not diminished any of the team’s spirits. Last year’s historic team started the season in the same fashion. When talking to some players, they assured the network that things would change. Saying that the season is long, and winning and losing streaks happen. The main idea is to keep mistakes to a minimum. The team has had room to grow together during their tournament in Boston this past December. The team had various team bonding events that helped bring the team together. They also played three tight games against some of the best teams in the Boston area, going 1-2 in the tournament. The team will start a seven-game away stretch that will be the biggest test of the season.

The Highlander News Sports network talked to captain Santana Sinvilcin about how he thought the rest of the season would go. “The team is very good with a lot of talent. We work hard every day in practice and know what type of team we are. The start of the season didn’t go like we wanted it to, but we know we’re going to bounce back.” The Highlander Sports network also met with senior guard Jack Guevara, who added, “The team is growing together each day, and since we have been back from winter break, there is a new vibe from the team. The team is poised to win many more games and try to make another playoff push.” The last member of the basketball team the network met with was Coach Konik. He said this about the team: “I think that we are incorporating new players.” He also talked about last year’s team and how they had a very strong identity and that the team needs to find their own identity this year. When this happens, he believes they will be a very strong team.
