As the Winter season ends, and our amazing Boys’ Varsity Basketball and Hockey compete in the NEPSAC playoffs, Gunn now has more things to focus on sportswise as it continues to get warmer here in Washington, Connecticut. The Frederick Gunn School’s boys baseball team is now up to the plate and ready to show off their new talent, as our players have grown since last year. The school has had a multitude of successes in times past with an impressive number of MLB draft picks, and many players who have played at the Division One collegiate level. Sophomore star Baseball player Trey LaMay met with the Highlander News Sports Desk to talk about the upcoming season. “This season is going to be better than last year, I feel like. We obviously lost some very valuable pieces to last year’s team, but as a whole, we’re looking pretty good.” Assistant Baseball Coach Mr. Martin also expressed his excitement for the season. “I’m really just looking forward to going to Florida, but we’ll see what happens.” From what the Newspaper has seen, they have already seen true grit and relentlessness from this team, and the Frederick Gunn Schools Baseball team hasn’t even played yet. In other terms of the season, the boys play a scrimmage against Shepaug for a scrimmage, before the actual season begins, with the first competitor being Wilbraham & Monson. This season has great potential for our Highlanders, and with new young talent, anything is possible for this crew of guys.
