Every fall at the end of the sports season, there comes a Saturday that has the entire school on the edge of their seats. Canterbury day comes just once a year as a way for students to get a leg up on our rivals, the Canterbury Saints. Last year, the Highlanders unfortunately lost the Cup but are determined to steal it back this year!
This Saturday, the Saints will load up onto various buses and trudge their way over to The Frederick Gunn School for a day of treacherous defeat. Our varsity sports teams will compete for the Cup that will be awarded to the victorious school, but the week leading up to this day is where the excitement truly begins.
Last night, the pep rally was held in the lower gym and it was heartwarming to say the least. The gym was beautifully decorated by our prefects as bagpipes serenaded the souls of our school. The crowd was roaring as each team presented themselves and played some games of soccer, spikeball, and tug of war. Afterwards, the Highlanders gathered around a raging bonfire to ignite the fire beneath our feet. If the Saints had seen our crowd last night, they will be quite scared on Saturday, as they load up their buses and head in the direction of The Frederick Gunn School and the tumultuous storm that awaits them.
