It is almost the most wonderful time of the year! As the days here in Washington Connecticut continue to get colder, we are getting closer to the beginning of winter sports! With winter sports, comes a very exciting and exhilarating season ahead for the Highlanders. This year’s Frederick Gunn School basketball team is looking fierce and ready to compete as early practices and team bonding exercises have already commenced. The team took a camping trip during the beginning of the school year to strengthen team chemistry and to give the teammates an opportunity to get to know each other. With many new members to the FGS community and basketball team, many are extremely excited to show off their talent and skills on the basketball court.
The new addition of the hardwood basketball flooring has most definitely lifted school spirit and given the school a better space to compete in athletics. We at the Highlander News Network asked the Assistant Athletic Director at The Frederick Gunn School, Ms. White on their opinion on the new basketball court and the players on our team. “The new court is absolutely beautiful, it’s sure to give our players a better place to play and hopefully bring in more college coaches”. Last year’s team was a fantastic group of guys, who were full of grit and competitiveness. Many see the same competitiveness and grit from last year in this year’s team as the returning players look even more experienced and ready to compete. The basketball games last year in the gym were nothing less than electric.
Jack Guevara, a new student and varsity basketball player at the Frederick Gunn School talks about the team and the overall experience . “The experience of going to school here so far as a new student has been great. It’s a great opportunity to play on this team and I really feel it will be our great team chemistry that will make us strong contenders in the NEPSAC”. An example of this would of course be games against Salisbury, Forman, and Millbrook. These were fenomenul home games in the 2021-2022 season that will live in the highlander hearts for a very long time. The Highlanders expect nothing less from our student section as Winter term slowly creeps on us for Winter sports.
