Boys Varsity Lacrosse won the 2022 Colonial Cup on a sweltering late May weekend. They beat rivals Pomfret and Canterbury to give the school the title for the first time since 2016. At School Meeting on the Monday after. Head of School Peter Becker was given the trophy. It was definitely a huge boost considering the same day we received news that Gunn had lost the Canterbury Cup. Gunn won where it mattered most however as Mr. Becker stated. Gunn lost regular season matchups to Pomfret and Canterbury but the team came back with a vengeance.
Mr. Marich Gunn Head Lacrosse Coach had high praise for his team saying the team played “really well” and is proud of how the team “represented themselves, the school, and their family”. He said that individual players “stepped up” to push the team over the edge to triumph. However he wants to keep the focus on the team and their collective effort.Despite challenges during the season the team persevered through and ultimately were successful. Overall he said it is definitely nice to win the championship and it is good for the boys lacrosse program here at FGS. Player, Will Marich said it was “incredible” to win. “There is no better feeling than to hear the final horn and go and get your goalie and throw your helmet up in the air”. Moreover it was a “dream” for Will understandably. Let’s all celebrate this huge accomplishment by the team for the FGS community!
