2021 World Series Recap

This year’s 2021 World Series was between the Houston Astros and the Atlanta Braves. At first it seemed that the Braves were going to easily wrap things up in the best of 7 game series. They won 3 out of the first 4 games but couldn’t clinch it in Game 5 resulting in the Astros winning 9-5. Suspense was high going into game 6 but eventually the Braves deflated the mood by shutting out the Astros and taking the Series.

Both teams had no lack of talent. The Astros had 4 players who had been selected for the All-Star game while the Braves had 3. A difference however is the team from Houston have been a World Series regular the past few years, while the Braves were making their first appearance in the Series since 1999.

The Astros had a prodigious offense in the regular season leading every single team in runs scored.

The Braves were nearly derailed by injuries that happened in the summer. They lost superstars like former Rookie of the Year; Ronald Acuna and the phenom pitcher Mike Soroka. Their General Manager Alex Anthopoulos is credited with trading and could acquire players that were able to keep them afloat in the series.

There were plenty of memorable moments during the Series. This includes 5 innings of no-hit baseball by Braves pitcher Ian Anderson, who is only in his second year in the majors. The Braves ending the Series in epic fashion during Game 6 was another unforgettable moment. Their offense was on fire, with a titanic three run homer by Jorge Soler and then a follow up hit outside of the park by Dansby Swanson that yielded two runs.

All in all it was a fun and exciting Series that will be fondly remembered.
